Abstract

– A look at higher education as it has moved from individually building software systems, to buying software systems, to borrowing software systems, to building software systems through partnerships and collective investment. Examination and overview of the Kuali project, Sakai (Oncourse), and OSP portfolios (ePortfolio) in their early stages. Explanation of Community Source as a model of pooling money, working together through synchronization of needs and timelines, execution at a high level of quality, shared maintenance, ongoing control of destiny with these projects, and bringing in the commercial sector to help with implementation around the software.
